Five candidates are elected to the Boston School Committee.

They are David Finnegan, John McDonough, John O’Bryant, Kathleen Sullivan and Paul Tierney. Kathleen Sullivan is the top vote getter with 40,027. O’Bryant becomes the first African-American elected to the Boston School Committee since 1895. Incumbent Elvira “Pixie” Palladino is defeated in her bid at reelection by fewer than 100 votes, but subsequently assumes a spot on the committee when David Finnegan resigns to run for mayor.
